There's no catch - it's a pretty awesome deal!

It's a make-or-break issue for Siege, but we should also bear in mind that among the major publishers, Ubisoft specialises in singleplayer blockbusters with multiplayer modes. It's not really an online specialist—and, wow, does it show. Forget latency: sometimes it's a triumph to even connect to the game. "Error 41" disconnections were all the rage in the first month, though those now seem to have been fixed. People still disconnect all the time for other reasons—and when it's party members who remain on voice comms in other programs, the problem isn't with their router.Even when matchmaking is successful, there's a small chance it'll just leave you stuck on a blank screen until you close the game. Sometimes matchmaking takes so long you just give up and play something else. And then sometimes you get a game, have a good time, and then at the end it can't "synchronise data" with Ubisoft's servers and you don't get any of your hard-earned XP.Mortal Kombat X has a lot of different little fight modifiers that you can enable yourself in offline "kustom kombat" matches, or you can roll the dice and play "test your luck" matches online or off, which dial up a handful of random modifiers and drop you into a battle. There are a lot of these, including basic stuff like lowering the recovery time on uppercuts or giving you more meter. Some of them make the screen wobble around or force you to fight upside down. One time I got something called "kick dive," which reduces your entire move-set down to just the Kung Lao-style dive kick. But I only saw that one pop up once and it doesn't seem to be on the kustom kombat list, which shows the modifiers whether you've unlocked them or not. Weird. It's strange and a little disappointing that you can't cook up some mix of custom modifiers, save them, and use them against friends in online matches. Your only option online is to play the random, test your luck variant. It's also worth noting that the game is extremely in-your-face about its after-purchase options. There's a 25th character, Goro, that comes with some pre-order copies of the game, but if you don't have him already, his icon shows on the character select screen with "PRESS X TO PURCHASE GORO" showing up when you attempt to select him. Goro appears to be for sale for $5. There's also a large window on the main menu that cycles through the season pass characters and some skin options that are also for sale. While I think the "Cold Steel" Sub-Zero skin looks really cool, the game presents its DLC in a really gaudy way. On top of that, the game can give you daily faction challenges for characters that you don't own. And, to round things out, a handful of characters that don't appear as playable show up in the story, including Tanya, who is one of the four characters coming as part of the game's season pass. They'll even sell you packs of consumable "easy fatality" tokens, in case pausing the game, looking at the moves list, and executing the fatality properly is too much for you. Or maybe you'll just want to spend $20 to unlock everything from the game's "krypt" section. Mortal Kombat is one of the great, long-running franchises of gaming and its popularity is already well-documented. Packing it with various real money transactions and having the game try to upsell me in multiple spots cheapens the experience. The PC version of Mortal Kombat X launched in a literally unplayable state due to it attempting to use the same kind of "play part of the game while the rest downloads" technology that you've seen on modern consoles. This ended up ruining the first night of play, but I haven't had any issues with that end of the game since. The PC version of the game looks fantastic with everything turned up and is well-integrated with Steam for matchmaking purposes. The two console versions are roughly the same, with the most meaningful differences being your controller preference and where you have the most friends to play with. The PlayStation 4 version of the game supports PS3 fight sticks over USB, which is a nice touch if you fell on the Sony side last time around and have that hardware already. As for the seasonal part of this update, Valve explain the gift-giving connection: "The Winter Offensive Update is shipping with three types of gifts for the giving: the Gift Package, which will give a random item to one random player in your match; the Pallet of Presents, which will give random items to up to nine people in your match; and the Audience Participation Parcel, which will give random items to up to 25 viewers watching your match." Beginning tonight, we're hosting daily Counter-Strike: GO events on our server. Because why the hell not? Then in come the tournaments. Gaming competitions of yesteryear saw inconsistent prize pools of $10 - 150k for games like Quake, Counter-Strike and Alien vs. Predator, whereas we're now seeing the dawn of million dollar events and consistency enforced by the developers themselves. She added, "It turns out that our community values finishes that look like paint guns over military camouflages. People are aspiring to a sport, rather than war."The best headsets for gaming can be found below, listed between $50 and $220, with some additional thoughts on headsets for FPS, RPGs, and other types of games.Skin Betting: Will Esports lose its shirt? It’d be fair to say that the regulated betting industry sees Esports betting as 2015’s hot topic. Perhaps in one year’s time it will have exploded or perhaps it will be consigned as a flash in the pan topic for gambling companies just as social gaming has been. In reality, Esports betting hasn’t just emerged over the past few months but has seen huge betting volumes wagered through unregulated markets since the opening of DotaLounge and more significantly, CSGOLounge, in August 2013, 12 months after the game’s release. It is not a coincidence that viewership of professional CounterStrike matches has grown from around 30,000 viewers to 500,000 viewers since the introductions of skins to the game and the various skin betting websites opened. No such websites undertake any age verification or form of KYC.the market defines the value of the items. This generally reflects how difficult it is to get an item. Valve’s own terms and conditions also reflect this expectation. Skins are generated when a user purchases both a case and a key from Valve, the game’s publisher. They run a quasi-slot machine mechanic, where their case and key, worth around £2, becomes a random item. Generally speaking, the rarer the item, the higher the value.

If there's one definite trend to take note of, it's that if an indie game strikes the right chord with people, a la Terraria, it has the chance to sell well for quite some time. That game in particular came out in 2011 and still sold over 1 million copies in 2015. That's some enviable success, to be sure.A confident first win suggested the Epsilon had figured out the North American metagame after their 3-2 victory over returning champions Cloud9 yesterday. Once again, captain iRaffer’s Ymir—a support character that isn’t valued in the US—proved to be a vital playmaker, while jungler Adapting turned in a brilliant performance as Thor.

Popular opinion is that the R8 remains imbalanced but to a less funny degree than before. In line with previous weapon updates, however, Valve predicts further tweaks to come before it finds the sweet spot.In keeping with its World of Warcraft source material, Hearthstone has been celebrating the Feast of Winter Veil in December. That has meant boards bedecked in snow and presents, and a new festive ‘greetings’ emote for each class. For example, Uther, the Paladin hero says: “Happy Feast of Winterveil, Champion!” On the surface it seemed like a nice non-denominational gesture on Blizzard’s part. In fact, it has led to the biggest example of mass trolling the game has seen. Well, everything in Counter-Strike: GO. Probably not everything in real life. But they also lose the money they've put down on the cheats, so there's that.Counter-Strike: Global Offensive's surge in popularity over the past year makes now a great time to join one of the most competitive multiplayer shooters on PC. This visual guide will teach you how to set up your game for the maximum competitive advantage. There's no singular best practice, as a lot of configuration is personal preference, but there are tweaks you can make to graphics and network settings, keybindings, and more to help outplay the competition. The problem for these players wasn’t just an easily accessible betting site, but rather the skins themselves and their detraction from the complex mechanics of the game in favour of something purely aesthetic and frivolous. A red line had now been crossed: not only were the developers and the player base engaging in such activity, but professionals were too.

Valve oddly makes betting incredibly easy in the game itself. One can buy cases that have randomly won weapons upon opening, which the keys to open also cost money. Those weapon skins can be easily transferred to third-party pools, or websites, to be either sold or put into a ‘pot’ to be won by betting on different professional and semi-professional CSGO matches. There is a wide variety of websites that offer ways to use your weapon skins as collateral, and currency, to gamble and place bets.Said warnings rolled out as early as July of 2015. The Counter-Strike: Global Offensive team notified the community that operators who created servers that “falsify the contents of a player's profile or inventory” would be punished.Valve’s delays weren’t without consideration. The company redoubled its efforts to design one of the most unique controllers we’ve encountered in all our years gaming. As PC gamers, we always prefer the keyboard/mouse combination, but we’ve also become capable users of the traditional dual-stick analog gamepads (Xbox 360’s PC controller, Logitech’s options). Not necessarily competent, but capable.
